I’ve been getting two or three email a week about my previous blog post on swimming the Schuylkill River. People are wondering where to jump. Here’s a map. My previous post has information on water quality (it’s good).
When Adam and I swam here we jumped in at the parking lot, swam upstream 1 or 2 hours, then turned around and swam back with the current. Swimming downstream you travel at 4x the speed, so it’s a quick trip.
Rudy Project continues their recession-busting sales promotions. This year has been a huge year for them, and they’ve proven their resolve time and time again to avoid the normal pitfalls that traditionally hit the industry in the down years of an economic cycle. Click on the link above to take advantage.
We are extremely excited to have these folks on board. Rudy Project has long been a leading manufacturer of sunglasses for athletes and more recently has entered the world of helmets. They are now our exclusive helmet and sunglass sponsor!
This company does not tread silently. They have been making a huge industry splash lately, garnering Outside Magazine’s coveted “Gear of the Year” awards and “Killer Value” awards for both sunglasses and helmets. Additionally in the last year they’ve been featured in dozens of publications from triathlon to golf to eyecare.
We have more exciting product news from Rudy Project that we will be featuring in the coming days.
Next time you’re stuck in the wilderness with no cell phone reception, at least you can do something useful with that cellphone. Like start a campfire to cook and warm yourself.
For those of you that we haven’t talked to personally yet, 10DL North America will be happening in August 2010. This is exciting news. For more information on the route click here:
In other news, Adam’s wife Amy is having a baby in August 2009! Ga ga go go! He is taking name suggestions, send him a note here. Currently he is considering “Neal” if it is a boy, and “Adam” if it is girl.
Yesterday we cycled to the summit of Mount Evans at 14,264 feet. Mount Evans has the “highest auto road in the US”. We did it in winter becuase it’s harder that way, and because it’s the last weekend before it opens up for automotive traffic. We had the entire road to ourselves. Having the road alone was awesome. Biking through foot-deep snow at the summit was challenging. Especially on road tires with frozen cycling pedals. Coming down at 50mph was amazing! We highly recommend it.
Stats:
14,264 evelevation at the summit. 4,000 feet vertical gain
8 mph on the way up. 50 mph on the way down.
40F at the base. 0F at the summit
Team: Adam, Adam, Neal
Here are a couple web links from others on the ride that we did:
10 Degrees Latitude (10DL for short) is an adventure race to traverse 10 Degrees of Latitude on every continent, under human power. This is about 1000 miles of north-south distance. We have done Europe. North America is next.
Adam is an Ironman and Navy Special Forces. Neal is the 120th person to climb the 7 Summits, including Mount Everest unguided. Adam and Neal are graduates of the Wharton Business School. We founded 10DL to put the adventure back into adventure travel.
