Through repetition it is possible to derive a kind of strength from the right mantra, and sometimes a small push is all it takes. Some of my mantras are straightforward:</p>
<p>&#8220;<strong>You&#8217;re almost there</strong>.&#8221;<br />
&#8220;<strong>Pain is temporary, quiting is permanent</strong>.&#8221;<br />
<strong>&#8220;You may be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.&#8221;<br />

<p>Some of my other mantras come from external sources, like Bruce Springsteen. His anthems are mantras for wishful thinking athletes. Here are some:</p>
